The stunned outrage phase? Officially over. Time to get serious about the legal cage match headed for the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) late this summer. Ready or not, Valley Link is bringing it with a gaggle of lawyers, domain experts, and years of planning.
Sure, the yard signs, bumper stickers, fiery speeches, and polite phone calls to your politicians have been highly successful and productive. Most of the county governments are now heavily invested in opposition, some putting up substantial funds for the fight, thanks to YOU and YOUR efforts. But it is not enough, and Valley Link is counting on exactly that: locals showing up emotionally invested and legally unarmed. Many of us are counting on the Culpeper county board's opposition to the Yeat substation being THE line killer, but Valley Link has been strangely silent on that matter. If they somehow legally overrule Culpeper we will all be left flat-footed.
To actually kill this thing, we need a razor-sharp case presented under the SCC’s own rules—expert witnesses who actually know high-voltage transmission, seasoned power-industry researchers, and lawyers who don’t flinch. That doesn’t come cheap or quick. Block Valley Link remains 100% self-funded and intends to stay that way. We’ll partner with serious, transparent non-profits whose explicit mission is to BLOCK the line—not politely nudge it off Grandma’s historic rose garden while the towers march on.
Which brings us to our first official partner: the brand-new Preserve Orange Alliance, led by Benjamin Pennington. Retired Marine, nonprofit board veteran, and proud owner of a transmission line that’s about to bisect his own property like a bad divorce. Their goal is identical to ours: stop the line dead.
Their opening fundraising target is $1 million. Sounds like an absurd number… until you realize that’s what it actually costs to keep the right experts and lawyers in the fight for the next year (minimum) while the SCC deliberates. Competent legal firepower is pretty much the only thing that has ever stopped one of these monstrosities. Consider that over 120,000 families received the horrid letter from Valley Link announcing their plans to seize your land, if only a fraction of these donate we can easily meet and surpass this goal. Time is of the essence, we have a very short 3-4 months to get a competent, aggressive team in place. If you’re ready to support the fight in front of the judges that will decide, consider donating to Preserve Orange Alliance here: https://givebutter.com/valley-link-legal-and-regulatory-defense-fund
