More Map Gymnastics!

More map gymnastics, courtesy of AEP! They’ve finally deigned to release their latest map and proposed routes around the new Joshua Falls energy distribution hub. What a generous gift to Campbell County: brand-new 138kV route alternatives running between the old and new Joshua Falls substations, plus two new 765kV route alternatives feeding the shiny new bulk energy distribution hub.

AEP also claims the existing three-mile 765kV line to the current Joshua Falls substation will be “removed.” Anyone want to bet those easements quietly stay on the books for some future “need”? And the towers—any takers on whether they’ll actually come down before the next decade?

Then there’s the timeline sleight-of-hand. Valley Link and the grid overlord, PJM, have both been clear: the Joshua Falls–Yeat line must be in service by late 2029 or the region gets hammered with load problems. AEP’s own projection? Fall 2030. Almost a full year past the hard deadline. If that’s their honest best guess, the 2029 “requirement” was never realistic to begin with. What gives?
